Transient lodging

Lodging occupied for a short, temporary period, the legal category that most short-term rentals fall under.

'Transient' generally means an occupancy below a set number of days, which is what makes a rental subject to occupancy taxes and STR ordinances. Above that threshold, the occupant is usually treated as a tenant rather than a transient guest.
