Open STR Regulation Dataset: 70 Verified US Markets (Free CSV)
A free, openly licensed dataset of short-term rental regulations across 70 US cities and counties — permit requirements and fees, legal status, occupancy restrictions, night caps, minimum stays, and lodging tax rates. Every row is human-verified against official sources by the STR Rule Watch research team, dated, and regenerated live from the same database that powers this site. No signup, no paywall.
Data current as of July 13, 2026 — the most recent human verification across all included markets.
What's in the dataset
One row per verified market, 17columns. Empty cells mean the rule doesn't apply or isn't specified by the jurisdiction — see our methodology for how each field is sourced and verified.

| state | Two-letter US state code. |
| kind | Jurisdiction type: city or county. |
| status | Overall legal status of short-term rentals in the jurisdiction. |
| permit_required | Whether an STR permit/license is required (true/false). |
| permit_name | Official name of the permit or license. |
| permit_fee_usd | Initial permit fee in US dollars. |
| renewal_frequency | How often the permit must be renewed (e.g. annual). |
| owner_occupancy_required | Whether the owner must occupy the property (true/false). |
| primary_residence_only | Whether STRs are limited to a host's primary residence (true/false). |
| max_units_per_owner | Maximum STR units one owner may operate, if capped. |
| night_cap_per_year | Annual limit on rented nights, if any. |
| min_stay_nights | Minimum stay length in nights, if mandated. |
| total_lodging_tax_pct | Sum of applicable lodging/occupancy tax rates (percent). |
| last_verified | Date the row was last human-verified against official sources. |

Every row is compiled from official sources — municipal codes, ordinances, city and county licensing pages, and tax authority publications — and human-verified by the STR Rule Watch research team before publication. Only verified markets are included; each row carries its verification date and source count.
