Confirm your property is eligible
Confirm the property's zoning allows short-term rentals. Home sharing is allowed wherever residential use is permitted, citywide. If the dwelling is the host's primary residence in a citywide residential district, no special exception is needed. If it is NOT the host's primary residence, or is in a Historic Preservation (HP) district, a special exception from the Board of Adjustment ($1,100 fee) is required before licensing, subject to the '10% Rule': special exceptions per platted block are capped at the greater of one or 10% of the block's dwelling units. In HP districts the home must additionally be the owner's primary residence and the owner must be on the premises during the rental. A legacy clause exempts hosts who operated before Jan. 15, 2019 from the special exception requirement (expires after two years of discontinued use). Since Feb. 16, 2025: maximum 16 occupants, 10 rental nights per month without a special exception, and at least one on-site parking space per four guests. Rentals over 30 consecutive days per guest are not home sharing and are unregulated by these ordinances.

Apply for the Home Sharing License
Submit the Home Sharing License application to Oklahoma City and pay the $120 fee. Annual license fee is $120.00 effective July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 (was $110.40 for July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026 and $100.80 before that). Separately, a Board of Adjustment special exception — required if the dwelling is not the host's primary residence or is in a Historic Preservation district — costs $1,100 (raised from $300).

Register for occupancy taxes
Register to collect and remit the applicable lodging/occupancy taxes for Oklahoma City. Some are collected automatically by the booking platform and some you may need to remit yourself.
