The City of Albany has no STR-specific permit, cap, or zoning rules as of July 2026 — its zoning code (USDO) does not even define short-term rental as a use, and a drafted local law (Local Law F of 2023) remains unadopted in committee. Hosts do face state and county obligations: since March 1, 2025 New York imposes state and local sales tax (8% combined in Albany County) on STR stays, collected by booking platforms, and in May 2026 Albany County extended its 6.5% hotel occupancy tax to STRs with a county registry requirement (collection begins once the registry is established).
